Mikel Arteta's side take on Bayern Munich.

Arsenal continue their Champions League quest on Tuesday night when they take on Bayern Munich in their quarter-final clash.

The German giants have suffered a disappointing campaign in the Bundesliga, where they trail Bayer Leverkusen by 16 points and are set to lose their championship crown. However, they hold a commanding record over the Gunners in the competition and will be looking to the Champions League as their last hope of silverware this season.

Despite Bayern's impressive record and European experience, the former Gunners striker Alan Smith is backing his former club to prevail over the two legs.

“I’m backing Arsenal – I think this is their moment and I think they’ve got enough about them to beat this Bayern team,” he told instantcasinos.com

“This is a Bayern side that have had their troubles and aren’t in the best of moods, although that isn’t to say that they won’t be really dangerous on the night because all their eggs are in the Champions League basket. Arsenal should be considered favourites, but football has a nasty habit of going against the grain and surprising you.

“They need to get everything right, there’s no doubt about that. You look at Harry Kane who has been at the top end of a team that hasn’t been firing on all cylinders and his goal return has still been absolutely spectacular – I’m sure he’d love nothing more than to knock Arsenal out of the Champions League! It’ll be a tough match.

“I think Arsenal’s progression over the past 9-10 months in the Premier League is the biggest indicator of how far they’ve come, and that’s put them in a great position coming into this tie. They definitely owe them one after being soundly beaten by Bayern before, so hopefully it will be a much different story this time.”
