The match was played at Camp Nou, but Eintracht Frankfurt looked right at home in a 3-2 victory over Barcelona in the second leg of their 2021-22 Europa League quarterfinal on Thursday.
After the teams played to a 1-1 draw last week in Frankfurt, the German side took full advantage of its opportunities to win Thursday's contest and the aggregate (4-3).
Powered by an early strike by Rafael Santos Borré and a pair of second-half goals from Filip Kostić, "Die Adler" brushed aside an overwhelming possession advantage by the hosts and proved clinical in front of goal, building up a three-goal lead before Sergio Busquets and Memphis Depay each scored stoppage-time consolation markers for the Catalans, the latter via the penalty spot with the last kick if the game. Barca's late-game heroics would provide a real scare for the visitors, but ultimately it was too little, too late for the La Liga giants as they were ultimately second-best on the night.
