Bruno Fernandes explains what Manchester United needed to do more of against City in derby loss

Manchester United saw their first-half lead evaporate as Manchester City scored three times in the closing 45 minutes to win their derby match on Sunday.

The Red Devils opened the scoring through a Marcus Rashford wonderstrike in the eighth minute, and they looked equal to their neighbours through the remainder of the opening half. But the second half was a different story as a pair of Phil Foden goals and a late strike by Erling Haaland gave the reigning treble winners a well-deserved three points.

It was the kind of turnaround that few teams could pull off so seamlessly but it's exactly what the Sky Blues managed against their rivals, who were left to wonder what could have been had they been better able to replicate the first half of Sunday's match.

"We had our chances," United captain Bruno Fernandes told Sky Sports.

"Sometimes we played a little too deep but you know City do that to all the teams, you have to defend your box and we did that really well in the first half. From a chance that could be ours it ended up 1-1.

"There's always something more you can do in the game, if it is City or someone else you can always do something better. City are a team that knows how to have the ball and pin teams back.

"We knew we had to defend our goal really well and I think we did, we should have had more spells with the ball than we did in the second half."
