Former NFL defensive end and co-owner of Burnley, JJ Watt, says the Clarets need to "step it up a little" after a poor run of form.
Burnley are currently 19th in the Premier League, with just one win and one draw from their 10 league games this season.
Luton sit one point ahead of the Clarets in 18th, while Bournemouth are a further point ahead in 17th.
Since beating Luton Town 2-1 on October 3, Burnley have suffered four straight defeats - the most recent a 3-0 Carabao Cup loss to Everton on Wednesday.
Watt - a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year - described last weekend's loss to Bournemouth as "frustrating" having taken an early lead in the 2-1 defeat.
Speaking to The Pat McAfee Show, Watt said: "Our manager runs a very specific style of play and it takes guys a while to understand exaction what he is asking and execute it.
"The defence needs to step it up a little bit.
"Bournemouth was certainly a frustrating one. I was frustrated with the Brentford one too, but against Bournemouth we went up, they put pressure on and we didn't handle it very well.
"I'm hoping we have a bounce back and show some resilience."
Burnley are back in Premier League action on Saturday when they host Crystal Palace at Turf Moor.
