Former Norwich City striker Chris Sutton believes that Marcus Rashford could find his starting role at Manchester United in peril.
The forward’s first season under Erik ten Hag earned him 30 goals, but he was well off the pace in his second campaign, and his relationship with the manager seemed strained as he was dropped by Ten Hag on one occasion for disciplinary reasons.
Another player who had problems with Ten Hag, Jadon Sancho, is now back at Old Trafford after a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, and with Alejandro Garnacho, Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo pushing for starting spots alongside Rasmus Hojlund - when the Dane is fit - there is work to be done for Rashford.
Sutton told Instant Withdrawal Casino : “If we see the Marcus Rashford of last season that seemed to feel a bit sorry for himself, then he’s going to have a fight to get back into the starting XI,” he said.
“When he’s motivated and with a clear mind, he can be a devastating footballer and as good as any of the other best attacking players in the world, but it really depends on which version of himself decides to turn up this season.
“If Rashford returns to the squad in a good state of mind and with a clear head, Manchester United will have a better season than they did last year. There were certainly issues in the goalscoring department last season and his lack of form was a big contributor to that.
"It looks like Erik ten Hag will have more players to pick from in wide areas and upfront, which gives him a good selection headache to have, but a fully firing Rashford can still be a massive asset for the club.”
