Could Erling Haaland have joined Manchester United? Ole Gunnar Solksjaer makes surprise revelationDAZN

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has revealed that he instructed Manchester United to buy Erling Haaland in 2018, but the club decided to not pursue a deal.

Solskjaer made the Red Devils aware of his fellow Norwegian six months before becoming United manager in December 2018.

Haaland would have been available for £4million if United were to buy the striker from Molde, but he instead joined Red Bull Salzburg followed by a move to Borussia Dortmund and then a £51.2million transfer to current Premier League champions Manchester City last Summer.

Solksjaer was aware of Haaland's potential during his time as manager at Molde and when speaking to The Sun, the 50-year-old detailed the personal call he made to United in an attempt to get his former employers to sign one of the world's best strikers.

"I called United about six months before I took over and told them that I'd got this striker that we had but they didn't listen," Solksjaer said.

"I asked for £4million for Haaland but they didn't sign him."

Since he signed for City, Haaland has scored 51 goals in all competitions and was this week named the Football Writers' Association Men's Footballer of the Year.
