The Premier League takes a back seat this weekend for the FA Cup Third Round, but at the halfway point in the campaign, there have been plenty of top performers in the league so far.

Liverpool have led the way at the top of the table, while Nottingham Forest and Newcastle are enjoying impressive years in the hunt for a Champions League spot.

However, speaking exclusively to DAZN News, thanks to BetBrain, former Reds midfielder Danny Murphy had no hesitation when naming who his stand out star has been in 2024-25.

"I think not just this season but the whole last year. Cole Palmer has been absolutely incredible. I can't wait to see him progress and evolve," Murphy stated.

"I think he'll become England's main man over time. I think he's that good. He's so intelligent. He's so brave. Everything he does is effortless. He's elegant.

"He's got everything he needs to do whatever he wants in the game.  And the amazing thing about him is that he does all these wonderful things and contributes and impacts games so effortlessly without really having great pace.  And that tells you what a wonderful player he is."

Away from Palmer's displays, Murphy also namedrops several other names who have stepped up to the plate this season, including two young England stars who could be key for new Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel.

He added: "I suppose this season, the other players, to mention a couple, I think, thinking outside the box a little bit, Ryan Gravenberch, I think, has been sensational and surprised many. Morgan Gibbs-White has probably this season got the recognition he deserves.

"He's a really talented player. It's just unfortunate there are so many brilliant forward players in our country at the moment who are English.

"And probably the other one really is, and I say this probably from an England point of view as well, somebody who can fill the void left by Luke Shaw is Lewis Hall at Newcastle. I've watched him closely and he's been patient to get his time in the team.

"But I think now he's established himself. He's very similar to Luke Shaw in many ways. And I think England have been crying out for this balance on the left side."
