The former Gunners goalkeeper believes the team needs to dip into the transfer market.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman believes his former employers need to bolster their defence ahead of the new Premier League season which gets underway on Friday.

The Gunners begin their 2023/24 campaign on Saturday when they take on Nottingham Forest as they look to go one better than last season and win their first Premier League title since 2004.

Mikel Arteta's side have been busy during the summer transfer window with Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurien Timber being some of the marquee names to arrive in North London, but Seaman wants to see the signings continue, especially in central defence.

"Positional wise I think we {Arsenal} need more cover in central defence," Seaman told BettingSites

"We saw last year how much losing Saliba affected us but don’t ask me what player because I’ve got no idea.

"Kiwior has looked good and will be learning in training but I still think we need one more. Saliba signed his new contract which is great and Saka as well, because I remember the time when Arsenal used to sell their best player every summer."

Arsenal have already won one piece of silverware this season after beating Manchester City on penalties in the Community Shield on Sunday.
