Former Liverpool midfielder Didier Hamann believes that Liverpool should attempt to beat Chelsea to the signature of Moises Caicedo.
The 21-year-old Ecuadorian international is wanted by Chelsea, and has been linked to all of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
However, Liverpool have suffered a midfield exodus this summer. Jordan Henderson and Fabinho are both unexpectedly being courted by Saudi Arabian Pro League sides, Naby Keita has left for Germany, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left when his contract expired, and James Milner was released to join Caicedo’s current club, Brighton & Hove Albion.
The south coast are believed to want around £100 million for the player, and big-spending Chelsea look interested in giving the player to new manager Mauricio Pochettino as they rebuild following a poor season in 2022/23.
Speaking to Lord Ping, Hamann advised manager Jurgen Klopp to make a move for the youngster.
He said: "Liverpool need another midfielder if Jordan Henderson and Fabinho do decide to leave for what they're being offered in Saudi Arabia. Moises Caicedo is a brilliant player, he fits the profile of a 'ball-winner', what Fabinho has been doing for Liverpool for years.
“If there is an opportunity to hijack the deal from Chelsea, then I think Liverpool should go for Caicedo. He would be another great signing for Liverpool's midfield, alongside Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister."
