Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has identified the Arsenal midfielder that Erik ten Hag should consider bringing to Old Trafford.

Yorke was a treble winner with United in 1999 and has gone down in history as one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s best-ever signings, and as Yorke was speaking to BoyleSports who offer the latest Premier League odds here, he picked out one surprise candidate at the Emirates who might make another astute signing.

He suggested: “Thomas Partey wouldn't be a bad signing for Man United. But it depends on whether Mikel Arteta changes his formation to 4-2-3-1 where he has two defensive midfielders where both Declan Rice and Partey can play together.

“Having a player like Partey makes Man United or Arsenal more adaptable because they can play different positions with his qualities.”

Yorke was not certain that Rice and Partey would dovetail in midfield, which might edge the former Atletico Madrid man towards the exit.

He added: “The whole point in a tactical approach is that we don't know what the opposing manager has planned before the game or season, so Arteta might figure a way out to play both Rice and Partey.

“The competition is healthy for the squad, you need players competing with each other every day in training and it builds a hunger in the team.”
