Arsenal have finished in second place in the Premier League two years in a row, and Dwight Yorke doesn't believe they'll improve their standing without a significant upgrade to the striker position.

The Gunners have watched as Manchester City claimed the league crown in each of the last four seasons, with the North Londoners occupying the runners-up spot during the two most recent campaigns.

This has come despite Arsenal spending a large portion of each of the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons in first place, as City used their trademark last-season surge to beat Mikel Arteta's side to the finish line in consecutive years.

And while many pundits are high on the club's chances of finally climbing to the top of the mountain in the upcoming season, Yorke remains unconvinced.

Speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League betting, Yorke pointed to the striker position as the one that's holding Arsenal back.

“Without a proper striker, Arsenal won’t win the Premier League," he said.

“Arsenal haven’t been able to finish above Manchester City in the last two years because they haven't got someone who can stick the ball in the net on a regular basis.

“If you look throughout the history of the Premier League, the teams who win the league have always got somebody who's scoring 20-plus goals.

“It's not rocket science for Mikel Arteta. They're supposed to be the experts and have all the data and the know-how and the breakdowns of all the teams that have won the Premier League.

“Goals are shared in and amongst the team, of course. But there's a significant part of the game that you need to master, which is to put the ball in the net on a regular basis and you need an individual who does that to win you the title.”
