Dwight Yorke believes things "could unfold in a horrible way" between Jadon Sancho and Erik ten Hag this season.
Sancho and Ten Hag had a tumuluous relationship last year that resulted in the player being sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund for the latter half of the campaign, but Sancho has been brougt back into the fold at Old Trafford and completed pre-season with the Red Devils without incident.
Sancho played in United's Community Shield loss to Manchester City earlier this month but was left out of the squad for the Red Devils' league opener over the weekend, with the club citing illness as the reason for his omission.
However, former United striker Yorke doesn't think much needs to happen for the relationship between player and manager to sour again, especially if the losses start piling up and Sancho again finds himself on the outside looking in.
"I’ve been in football long enough to see that although you can try to patch up relationships, when things start unravelling on the pitch those relationships go pear-shaped again," Yorke told CSGOluck.
"If Jadon Sancho isn’t playing and the manager is making all sorts of changes after losing games, which will happen this season, he’s going to have to manage that whole scenario all over again.
"This could unfold in a horrible way because things really weren’t right between them. Sancho would’ve been hoping that Ten Hag would leave but both have had to compromise.
"It’s a situation to watch very closely."
