The former Arsenal midfielder was not impressed with one player's performance.

Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella did not emerge with many positives following his team's 2-0 loss to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

After playing an instrumental part in Spain's triumph at Euro 2024 last month, his chant where he mocked City striker Erling Haaland went viral and the two went head-to-head on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.

Unfortunately for Cucurella, it was Haaland who had the last laugh after he shrugged off the defender to open the scoring in West London.

Speaking to Android Poker Apps, former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit had some advice for Cucurella ahead of future matches.

"Erling Haaland scoring against Marc Cucurella is probably karma. It reminds me of times before big games when I was playing and some players would say a lot in press conferences," Petit said.

"In my teams, we always said never to talk big about a player before a game otherwise that could turn into a weapon against us. That talk could motivate the opposition's player to perform even better, like it did to Haaland.

"At the end of the day, people will say Cucurella got what he deserved and he'll learn from it, but I found it funny.

"Next time, don't take the p—s out of your opponent, shut your mouth, win the game and trophies and that's it, stay humble."

Chelsea are in Europa Conference League action against Servette on Thursday before travelling to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League three days later.
