Emmanuel Petit expects key player to leave Arsenal in January

There could be a huge name leaving the Emirates next month.

Former Arsenal defender Emmanuel Petit believes that there could be a chance Aaron Ramsdale leaves the North London club for pastures new in January.

After strong performances last season, it looked like Ramsdale had locked down the starting goalkeeper position in Mikel Arteta's team, but now the England international finds himself in a completely different situation.

During the summer, Arsenal brought in Brentford goalkeeper David Raya on loan and now Arteta has opted to start the Spaniard over Ramsdale in recent weeks.

With Ramsdale hoping to be part of the England squad for EURO 2024, he will find it more difficult to get a seat on the plane if he fails to make regular first team appearances for Arsenal, and Petit thinks this could result in Ramsdale pursuing a move elsewhere if he wants to play a part in a major tournament for England next year.

"Last season, Ramsdale didn’t do anything wrong. He performed well for Arsenal. It’s very had for a player that has performed well to understand why he is now on the bench. Ramsdale will want to know the reason why he is no longer the starting number one for Arsenal," Petit told Lord Ping

"Ramsdale will feel hurt by what has happened at Arsenal this season. He will think that he is the better goalkeeper, and it will sting for him to be relegated to the bench for a player that joined in the summer.

"Ramsdale is in a tricky situation because he will want to be considered for the England squad at Euro 2024. If he continues to find himself on the bench, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him try and move when the transfer window opens."

After an emphatic 6-0 win over Lens in the Champions League on Wednesday, Arsenal return to Premier League duties on Saturday when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium.
