Emmanuel Petit names two replacements for under fire Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino

Emmanuel Petit names two replacements for under fire Chelsea manager Mauricio PochettinoDAZN
Chelsea have struggled so far this season.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is under a lot of pressure seven months into his tenure at Stamford Bridge.

Following a summer where the club made a number of big money transfers, there was an expectation that the team would be challenging for numerous honours despite not featuring in European competition.

However, while still in contention to win the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, Chelsea have stuttered in the league and find themselves in tenth place.

A 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on Monday night gave Pochettino some respite, but there are still some who believe he may not be the right man for Chelsea, and former defender Emmanuel Petit named two replacements if the Argentine was to be relieved of his coaching duties.

"If Chlesea were to replace Pochettino, even though I think it’s too soon, he would not be my first choice. I think that Chelsea need a proper manager with a vision, just like what (Mikel) Arteta had for Arsenal. But they need to give him (a manager) time to implement what he wants to do with the players," Petit told Betway

"If you continue to change managers because you are unhappy with results and the season, you will end up changing managers again. I don't know how many managers Chelsea have changed across the last decade, but there have been a lot of managers in the dugout at Chelsea.

"Mourinho is free, so he could be an option. But he's not my preference, there are new managers who are doing great things. I'm thinking about Xabi Alonso for example, I'm very impressed with his work in Germany but there are many great managers that are available.

"Mourinho could be a choice, he's been successful at the club but we all know that he comes with drama. I'm not sure that's what Chelsea need, they need a character like (Carlo) Ancelloti at Real Madrid, who is focused on the club, on his work and doesn't talk a lot or cause trouble with his communication and criticise players publicly as Mourinho has done in the past.

"They need someone calm and need continuity at the club."

Chelsea return to action on Saturday when they travel to defending Premier League champions Manchester City.
