Who will Gareth Southgate's long-term replacement be?

Chris Waddle would like to see England chase a big-name coach to succeed Gareth Southgate.

Lee Carsely has been given the job on an interim basis and will take charge of his first game on Saturday when the Three Lions open their Nations League campaign against the Republic of Ireland.

However, Waddle, who won 62 England caps in his career, exclusively told DAZN - via NewBettingSite.uk - that he thinks The FA should aim for the very best in their search for a permanent successor.

He said: "I'm always in for the best and there's a lot of talk of [Pep] Guardiola's last season at Man City. So, keep Lee Carsley in charge for the year if you want. But I'd be very disappointed if the FA hadn't approached Guardiola already and said, are you leaving? There's a job there for you.

"After that, you're looking at what? I mean, people with little experience. We need someone who's going to be very adventurous, who's going to say, yeah, we're at playing in Wembley, we're playing in Germany, we're going for it.

"I thought the Euros were very, very cagey. We played very defensively, especially with the players available to us. I counted the other day in that squad and worked out, I think we had three midfield players and nine number 10s. So if we've got that many attacking options, attack.

"If that's our strength, which it should be, then let's go for it."
