Champions may rue letting player leave the club.
Manchester City's squad might be packed with some of the Premier League's biggest names, but one former club captain thinks his former side might be regretting selling one of its young stars.

Cole Palmer left the Etihad for Chelsea last summer and has gone on to score 31 goals in just 58 games for the West London club as one of the league's most impactful players.

Talking to BetVictor, Richard Dunne has hailed the performances of the former City man and suggested he is more effective than City star Phil Foden.

“Manchester City will definitely be regretting letting Cole Palmer leave," said Dunne.

"It’s a bit of a juggling act when you don’t feel a young player is quite ready for first-team football, so they let him go, but now they’ll be thinking that they could do with him in their team.

“The form he’s in is outstanding and he’s so important for Chelsea. He’s probably the most important player in the Premier League because Chelsea wouldn’t be the same team without him. What he brings to them, and what he should be bringing to the England team, is something that no one else in the Premier League can do.

"Phil Foden is a similar player, but Palmer just seems to have more goals and assists in him. There’s no doubt that City would love to have him in their team.”

Manchester City are back in Premier League action on Saturday when they host Fulham at the Etihad Stadium.
