Dimitar Berbatov has one player in mind to captain Manchester United.

Former Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov has had his say on who should captain the Red Devils for their visit to Anfield on Sunday.

Club captain Bruno Fernandes will miss the game due to a suspension following a yellow card he picked up during last Saturday's loss to Bournemouth.

Manchester United have experienced a difficult week; home defeats to Bournemouth and Bayern Munich have piled more pressure onto the beleaguered side.

With Fernandes out, someone else must lead United out onto the pitch against Liverpool.

Speaking to Betfair, Dimitar Berbatov said, "The question is, who leads the side at Anfield? Who deserves the captain's armband more, the experienced players like Jonny Evans or Raphael Varane, or someone younger and hungry like Scott McTominay?"

Despite naming credible candidates, Berbatov chose a different player; "Sometimes, how to deal with a player who is going through a difficult patch of form, it's good to show them faith. Marcus Rashford needs to be shown faith; maybe he should be captain for the game."

Rashford has struggled to capture last season's form, and has faced criticism from various sections of the fanbase. However, Berbatov believes the captaincy could inspire Rashford. He said, "Rashford could realise that this is his chance to be a leader and the main star at Man United. These moments can elevate players, they just need an arm around their shoulders."
