Tottenham still haven't replaced their record goal-scorer.
Harry Kane may have left Tottenham a year ago, but the club is still looking for a way to replace his goals on Ange Postecoglou's side.

Spurs missed out on Champions League football last season, and go into the new campaign still lacking a traditional number nine at the point of their attack.

However, instead of searching for a new recruit in that area, former midfielder Gus Poyet has challenged Tottenham's current crop to step forward and make the 'number nine shirt' their own.

Speaking exclusively to DAZN, thanks to Free Bets, Poyet sent a message to the attacking talent at the club.

He said: "When you have the number nine that you know is going to play week in and week out and is going to score 20-plus goals, it helps a lot.

"Sometimes, there is part of the games that we can plan and make decisions, the coaches and how we defend, how deep, how high, blah, blah, blah. But to put it on the net, it's normally only one guy. That guy is the number nine.

"You know what I would like? And this is like a message to all the offensive players. Grab the number nine shirt for you and make yourself the number nine of Tottenham.

"Really, show it, you know, score goals. Get yourself in a position that everybody knows when you play Tottenham number nine is this guy.  And that would be an extra motivation for all the offensive players."
