Former Arsenal player urges Marcus Rashford to follow Kai Havertz to North London club

Emmanuel Petit believes Marcus Rashford could have a resurgence at Arsenal, echoing Kai Havertz's successful first season at the Emirates Stadium.

Rashford struggled this past season with Manchester United, scoring only eight goals across all competitions after netting 30 times for the Red Devils in 2022-23. The 26-year-old's output reflected his club's overall outlook in 2023-24 as United finished eighth in the Premier League and, despite hoisting the FA Cup, had one of the worst campaigns in their history.

It is expected that new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe will make wholesale changes to the team this summer, with manager Erik ten Hag appearing likely to leave Old Trafford. A number of players could follow Ten Hag out the door, and Rashford's name has been linked to moves away from United despite being the club's second longest-serving player.

Former Arsenal defender Petit thinks there's a bright future for Rashford in North London should he want it, and he pointed to Havertz as an example of an underperforming player leaving another big club to find success with the Gunners.

Havertz left Chelsea for Arsenal last summer and enjoyed a resurgence under manager Mikel Arteta, and Petit believes a similar fate would await Rashford if he made a similar move.

Petit was speaking on behalf of BoyleSports, which offers the latest Champions League betting. He said: "Listen, I know Kai Havertz has improved massively at Arsenal, but it’s difficult to say whether Arteta could do the same with Rashford if he moved to the club.

"However, I have no doubt that Rashford needs a new start and I think Arsenal could be perfect for him. We all know the quality of Rashford for what he’s done in years at Man United, but everyone questioned Havertz and his position when he moved from Chelsea.

"Would Rashford be good at Arsenal? Give me the paper, and let me sign it for him right now!

"Rashford in a good environment would be incredible for the Gunners as they all look miserable at United. I saw what happened with the fan and I understand his frustration, so if Rashford wants to leave, he’s more than welcome at Arsenal and the door is open for him.

"Havertz was in a strange environment at Chelsea and he wasn’t happy, but he has smiled at Arsenal and I can finally see his teeth - I want that for Rashford."
