Former Chelsea defender declares Stamford Bridge crisis as worse than Man Utd'sDAZN
The two teams are struggling.

Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson believes that the crisis at Stamford Bridge dwarfs the one currently engulfing Manchester United.

Mauricio Pochettino is already looking to the winter transfer window in order to turn around his fortunes in West London, with the club sitting in 12th place.

Erik ten Hag sits sixth, but his position is potentially more under threat. While Pochettino inherited a club that was struggling last season and undergoing a huge overhaul, the Dutchman took his side into the Champions League spots in the previous campaign and was expected to build upon that.

United spent heavily to bring Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund to the side, and none of them have impressed so far in the new season, with the decision to let David de Gea leave for nothing looking like a mistake, at least in the short term.

While they are not out of the running for a top-four finish, the expected arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe as a co-owner who wants to reinvigorate the footballing operations at United could imperil Ten Hag’s position as manager.

Speaking to Betfred, though, Johnson thinks that the difference in places in the league table is enough to declare Chelsea’s problems as worse.

He said: “It pains me to say it, but at this very moment, I’d have to say Chelsea. It has to be. Chelsea are 12th in the league and Manchester United are 6th and I know they’re not the Manchester United of old, but they’re only six or seven points away from being involved in the Premier League title race.

“Manchester United fans will be fuming with their form this season, so I understand why people claim they’re in a crisis, but when you look at how far away they are in terms of points, it doesn't look that bad on paper. Being sixth in the league isn’t the end of the world, so I would much rather be sixth than twelfth.”
