Chelsea would pull to within a point of eighth place West Ham if they win their Premier League match against Everton on Monday.

The Blues are in ninth place ahead of their kick-off against the Toffees, but it's fair to say that they expected to be doing much better this season after a hefty summer spending spree.

Instead of challenging for a Champions League berth, the London side are clinging to a top-half finish. It's a situation that has drawn harsh criticism from around the footballing world, and a former Chelsea player has added his voice to the chorus as Frank Leboeuf delivered a blunt assessment of his old club.

Speaking to Fastestpayoutonlinecasino.com, Leboeuf didn't mince words about the state of the club.

"Some fans think Chelsea can just start from scratch next season, but it won’t really be starting from scratch after spending a billion pounds," Leboeuf said.

"The club can do whatever they want with their money but as a former player, I think it's kind of a disgrace to see what we are seeing.

"The talent is there in the squad but you don’t have many leaders or players you can rely on, that’s the biggest problem [manager Mauricio] Pochettino has."

One player Chelsea has been able to rely on this season is Cole Palmer, who is among the league leaders in both goals and assists. Leboeuf feels Palmer's impact has been so big this season that Chelsea could have been flirting with relegation without him in the lineup.

"Chelsea would be in a far worse position if it wasn’t for Cole Palmer and you can see that because he only has [four] goals less than Erling Haaland," he said. "I don't think they could be relegated but they would be fighting against it until the end of the season."
