Former France defender Mikael Silvestre believes that England need to overhaul their attitude as they head into the knockout stages of Euro 2024.
England are through to the knockout rounds regardless of the outcome of their match against Slovenia on Tuesday, but their first two displays - a win against Serbia and a draw with Denmark - have underwhelmed observers.
Manager Gareth Southgate has bemoaned a lack of fitness and the right kind of players at his disposal, despite the talent in the squad.
Silvestre, who played for Arsenal and Manchester United amongst others, thinks that as it stands, England are not contenders for the trophy.
He told bettingexpert.com: “No, they (England) are not (contenders), they haven't shown enough in the first two games to be in the same bracket as Spain and Germany. One degree less, France because we haven't scored but we had chances. Portugal as well."
“It’s not impossible for England to change that but it's difficult during a tournament. You can grow. So maybe they're going to grow into it, into becoming a beast. So that's what it's going to take.”
