The Londoners dropped points on Sunday.

Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique hit out at Arsenal fans after some of them left the Emirates before the final whistle of their 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend.

The loss on Sunday was a morale-draining blow in the title challenge with Manchester City topping the table.

However, Mikel Arteta’s side have a chance if they can get back to winning ways, and speaking to Grosvenor Sport, Enrique had little time for those supporters.

“I don’t think that would happen in every stadium,” he said.

“I think Arsenal are in a very good moment with Mikel Arteta – last season they were close to winning the Premier League and this year they’re challenging again. When Aston Villa scored it was obviously very tough, but leaving the stadium isn’t good enough from the fans. It’s a place where you get to support your team and tickets are not easy to get for any big team – loads of people would have loved to have been there in that moment.

“I understand Arsenal fans are upset and they want to win the title, but the Premier League is like this sometimes – you have to accept that it’s very difficult to win.

"For me, it seemed like the Arsenal players could feel the pressure on Sunday – you could see it in their faces. There was a lot of pressure when they couldn’t score and the game was becoming very long for them.

“I don’t think leaving the stadium early is good and I think you need to stay to the end to support your team. I understand the feeling about the result, but you’re playing against Aston Villa who are a very good side.

"People need to remember how difficult it is to just be inside the stadium watching your team play and how many others would love to be in your position as a fan, so I don’t think it’s good enough – you need to stay in the good or the bad to support your team. That’s my opinion.”
