Despite Wednesday night's setback in the Carabao Cup, Liverpool's pursuit for silverware continues this weekend when they host Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup Third Round.

Arne Slot's men are already top of the Premier League and Champions League tables and the Dutchman is likely to lift a trophy in his first season at Anfield.

However, away from the football, the background noise centres around the contract situations of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who are all set to be free agents this summer.

There's still no sign from the club that any of the three are close to signing new deals, and speaking exclusively to DAZN News, thanks to BetBrain, former Liverpool star Danny Murphy believes that the Reds need to get the deals done.

On what he expects to happen, Murphy concedes he can see Alexander-Arnold going but is hopeful of Salah inking a new contract.

"I think everything points to Trent going at the moment. I think I understand why as well. He's won everything there is to win at Liverpool," he said.

"From a football indecision, he's going to one of the biggest clubs in the world [Real Madrid], where he's going to win silverware. From a lifestyle perspective, he's been a local lad all his life.  He's never known anything different, and you're only here once, aren't you?

"So I think maybe it's unfair to judge people who want to experience something different. I understand his reasoning for wanting to go, if that is the case. That's probably the most likely one.

"I was really confident of Salah staying up until the interview this week, but the more I've listened to him, I actually think that's probably a little bit more gameplay, to be honest, to get it over the line.

"Even his reaction after the goal, he had the penalty against Manchester United, he's feeling the warmth. I've never seen him smile so much. His body language is really good.

"I think he's thinking more about legacy now than anything.  I don't think he's a finance person anyway, but what he's creating, what he's achieving at the minute and how well he's playing, surely he's got to want that to continue."

Of the three however, Murphy admits that if he were to choose to keep one of them on Merseyside, he'd make sure that skipper Virgil van Dijk is the one that stays at the club.

Adding: "I think it would be a mistake from the football club to not get at least two of them over the line, because they are hugely influential players. If you were to ask me to make sure one got done, if I was to choose one, it would be Van Dijk.

"The only reason I say that, it's not disrespectful to Salah, because I'm his biggest fan, but I think if you had to go and find brilliant forward players or goals, you can find it, even if you find two rather than one. You replace him with two rather than one.

"Whereas centre-halves of Van Dijk's stature and quality, there's not many around.

"I think that would be the hardest one. I'd be trying to get them done, and I'll be trying to get them done this month."
