Mohamed Salah's status at Liverpool continues to be a topic of conversation amid rumours that the 32-year-old could leave Anfield in the near future, and Glen Johnson believes the club should look to maximise their return should the Egyptian star depart.

Salah drew interest from Saudi Arabian sides last summer and continues to be linked to a move to the Middle East, and former Liverpool defender Johnson thinks the club should pounce on a good offer should they receive one rather than hold on to their talisman.

Speaking to Paddy Power, Johnson explained the tough balancing act new Liverpool manager Arne Slot has to perform when it comes to Salah, who is out of contract in 2025 and could leave Anfield for free after this season.

“You always want the big players who have been at the club a long time to stay, especially when you have a new manager," Johnson said.

"But then there’s the business side of it, and Liverpool can’t really afford to let Mo Salah go for free next year.

“But at the same time the new manager won’t want too many big changes.

"It’s a tough one but if Liverpool get offered the right money for him now, they’d be silly not to take it.

"If he has another okay year, and then he walks away for free, they won’t have the 35 goals from him and they won’t have the transfer fee for him.”
