Manchester United open the Premier League season this Friday night, looking to improve on a disappointing league position last campaign.
Erik ten Hag's side finished 8th in the table, their lowest placing since the Premier League began, and the Dutchman is under pressure to make sure the club get back into European contention.
Speaking to Highest Payout Online Casino, former Red Devil Lee Sharpe is optimistic about the club's chances and predicts a top-four finish for ten Hag's men. However, Sharpe believes Friday's opener against Fulham could be a tough test.
Sharpe said: “If they stay injury-free, United can finish top four. I don’t think they can win the title, but I think a spot in the Champions League is well-achievable. They have a strong squad with good depth and providing they avoid the injury plague that they dealt with last year, they’ll have a chance at the top four.
“Fulham won’t be an easy game. It’s certainly a tricky one to start with. Fulham have had a decent preseason and have bought some good players to strengthen their squad so it won’t be an easy ride for United, not that there are any in the Premier League! United may scrape a win.
“I think United will be bang at it this season, though, they need a performance and if they could get a result that would be fantastic and give them a bit of momentum. They need to be consistent this season and outline their philosophy and how they’re trying to play.
“At times last season there was a lack of organization and what players were meant to be doing at certain times, and if we can see a bit more of a well-oiled machine, people will start to be more positive. Certainly after the Community Shield, I know Man City played a weakened team, but the way United got the ball and how they created chances going forward was really positive.”
