David Moyes' imminent departure from West Ham United comes alongside some horrible "vibes" at the club, says Teddy Sheringham.

The former England international and West Ham striker warned that replacing Moyes with former Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui will not come without issues, as he believes Moyes has done a good job during his time at the London Stadium.

Speaking to Genting Casino, Sheringham explained how Moyes' tenure ends with turbulence, but that the Scotsman had an overall good influence on the club.

"The vibes are horrible at the club at the moment," Sheringham said.

"Moyes has banned the director of football from the dressing room and the training ground, it’s not great.

"After what Moyes has done there, he’s had some decent results in the Premier League over the last few years. European qualification three years running. Nowhere near relegation. He’s obviously been doing something right."

While the Hammers will hope that Moyes' absence will improve things, Sheringham noted that such a drastic move brings no guarantees of success to a club the size of West Ham.

"I think it could be a case of be careful what you wish for," he said. "If you’re not one of the top clubs, with multi-millions to spend, it’s tough to stay competitive in the Premier League week-in, week-out.

"Moyes has easily done that and more. Traditionally, West Ham wouldn’t have been expected to be an established top six to eight club, they would have been fighting for survival, so I think he’s excelled at the club.

"He's come through that test with flying colours. He’s taken a team up a level. It’s not easy to do that."
