The Chelsea manager was sacked today with a new man ready to take over for the second half of the season and beyond.

Chelsea have sacked Frank Lampard and reports suggest he will be replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

The Telegraph claims that the former Paris Saint-Germain manager Tuchel is set to take over at Stamford Bridge after leaving the French club following player unrest and disagreements with club executives.

Lampard was removed from his post despite the weekend's 3-1 win over Luton Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Chelsea currently sits ninth in the Premier League, five points off the Champions League spots and 11 points behind Manchester United, who are on top of the Premier League.

The former West Ham, Chelsea, Manchester City, and New York City midfielder took over in 2019 and qualified for the Champions League this season despite operating under a transfer ban that limited his ability to change his squad. He was charged with bringing through the club's younger players, with Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi's notable successes.

He was rewarded for the first season's success with a £200 million outlay on players such as Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Thiago Silva, Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy, and Ben Chilwell. However, the team has struggled to integrate their new arrivals and is well off the pace this season. They have just one win in their last five league games.

Roman Abramovich had reportedly considered another German manager, Julian Nagelsmann of RB Leipzig, as an alternative, but Tuchel's availability meant he was an easier appointment midway through the season. He is set to sign a contract for four and a half years.

The club owner said in a statement on the Club's official website: "This was a very difficult decision for the Club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him.

"He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances, we believe it is best to change managers.

"On behalf of everyone at the Club, the Board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as Head Coach and wish him every success in the future. He is an important icon of this great Club, and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge."
