England eased to a 3-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday, with Gareth Southgate using a heavily rotated side in the international friendly at St. James' Park.

A number of players who normally wouldn't start for the Three Lions were in the lineup in Monday's match, including first-time starters Cole Palmer and Eberechi Eze.

Both players made themselves known during the match, which saw England enjoy a big possession advantage. However, Southgate acknowledged that using a lot of newer faces led to a lack of familiarity on the field, and England took a while to find their rhythm as they didn't score until the 60th minute.

"We had a lot of fresh players to bring in," Southgate told Channel 4. "Once you break that resistance then it starts to come.

"A lot players didn't have many caps that started so it was going to be a sticky start."

It was Palmer's successful penalty that broke the deadloack at the hour mark, followed by goals from incumbents Trent Alexander-Arnold and Harry Kane inside the final five minutes of play.

Southgate noted afterwards that Palmer could have increased his tally with some different decision-making, but praised both the 22-year-old and Eze for their inspired play.

"I thought they both played with freedom," the manager said. "Ebere has got lovely movement to go past players, he's got power. A couple of times, Cole was being too precise and if he got his shots away earlier maybe he could've got a couple."
