The Germans strode into the 2018 World Cup as defending champions, with the expectation that they would be among the favourites to once again raise the most coveted trophy in football. Instead, Die Mannschaft suffered an ignominious exit in the group stage, falling to both Mexico and South Korea and finishing bottom of the group.
Fast forward four years and Hansi Flick is in charge, which a retooled side ready to reclaim Germany's place among the world's elite. Facing a group that includes fellow World Cup winners Spain, the Germans will be loath to take anyone for granted this time around.

What stadiums will Germany play in at World Cup 2022?
Germany will play at two venues during the group stage.
Khalifa International Stadium - Germany vs. Japan
Germany's first group stage match will be played at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, a 45,416-seat venue that is by far the oldest at Qatar 2022.
Opened in 1976, it's a multipurpose venue that has hosted track and field events as well as football events. The stadium has undergone numerous renovations, including major redevelopments in 2005 and 2017, to increase capacity and amenities.
Major events that have been hosted at the venue include the 2006 Asian Games, 2011 Pan Arab Games, 2019 World Athletics Championships and a pair of 2019 FIFA Club World Cup matches. It will host eight World Cup games, including the third-place match.
Al Bayt Stadium - Spain vs. Germany & Costa Rica vs. Germany
A 60,000-seat venue in Al Khor, the Al Bayt Stadium features a retractable roof and will be reduced in size by nearly half of its seating capacity after the World Cup.
Completed in November 2021, the stadium was used for the opening ceremony of the FIFA Arab Cup 2021. It also hosted five matches durig that tournament, including the final.
At Qatar 2022, the stadium will host six group stage matches and three knockout games, including a semi-final.
