Glen Johnson believes Joshua Kimmich would be ‘perfect’ for Liverpool.
The Bayern Munich midfielder is out of contract with the champion in the summer of 2025, and at 28 years old he is at the top of his game.
A versatile German who is able to operate in midfield and at right-back, he could even potentially replace Trent Alexander-Arnold if the latter was to move to a position higher up the pitch, as has been suggested in recent months.
Liverpool already bought four midfielders in the summer - Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo - but with Thiago Alcantara’s future uncertain at the club, there could be room for another midfielder in the team.
Kimmich has been linked not just with Liverpool, but with Manchester United and many other top teams around Europe.
Speaking to GGRecon, former Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham defender Johnson thinks that Kimmich would be ideal.
He said: “I think he would be absolutely perfect. He’s very experienced and has played at the very top level for the majority of his career.
“We hear about players being treated like a king at Bayern Munich, so it all depends on whether he’d be prepared to give that up and if he actually wants to leave.”
“If he’s actually available on a free transfer, then of course the top clubs are going to be looking at him. He may want to move to the Premier League to see if he can be successful in the best league in the world. It’s all down to what he wants. If Liverpool have the chance to go for him, then they have to.”
