The former England international was looking ahead to the tournament.

There is a lot of excitement surrounding England ahead of Euro 2024.

The Three Lions get their campaign underway on Sunday against Serbia and many are backing the team to go all the way, and win their first major tournament since 1966.

One reason for this is due to the vast array of attacking talent amongst England's ranks with Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka just a few of the star names at manager Gareth Southgate's disposal.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, former England midfielder Glenn Hoddle has claimed that Foden could become the team's 'Messi' and play a major role if England were to lift the trophy in Berlin on July 14. However, he is less optimistic about it becoming a reality.

"Normally a tournament's won by a special someone, a Maradona, a Messi, a Pele, one player that can actually make the difference," Hoddle told the 'In the Zone' podcast

"I think England has that with Phil Foden, he's that type of player, but we've got quite a few players that could end up being the main man in this tournament.

“I just see us failing in the semis against France - defensively I think they'll find us out. But I'm going to have a little punt on Portugal and just hope that the manager and Ronaldo can smooth things out.”
