Manchester United legend Gordon Strachan believes club captain Harry Maguire needs to stand up to manager Erik ten Hag when it comes to his future at the club.
Maguire may have the captain's armband, but he has rarely started this season and when he has been picked for the starting eleven, his performances are often below par.
With the Summer transfer window approaching it maybe time for Maguire to call time at United and move to a club where he will be able to get regular first team football.
"I think Harry has to have a conversion with Erik ten Hag and ask him ‘do you really want me?’ because he’s really taking some flak, albeit mostly on social media which is a horrible world to get involved in," Strachan told Casinosite.nl.
"For his own good he should want to go somewhere where the manager wants to play him as first choice. What he doesn’t want is to be this whipping boy when something goes wrong.
"He needs to decide what his future holds. I had a similar situation myself at the end of my time at Manchester United and ended up going to Leeds where I had a wonderful time. I think he deserves a break.”
After being knocked out the Europa League quarter-finals by Sevilla, United will be fully focused on landing a Champions League spot next season and beating rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup Final on June 3.
