Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has explained why he would have taken Marcus Rashford to the Euro 2024 tournament.

Rashford has been left out of the squad after a miserable season with Manchester United.

His first year with Erik ten Hag saw him score 30 goals in a season for the first time in his career, but his follow-up was marked by rumblings of dissatisfaction from the player’s end.

The forward was nonetheless tipped to go to Germany with Gareth Southgate’s men this summer given his international experience, and the difference in form he often shows with England.

Speaking to BetVictor , Redknapp said: “As poor as Marcus Rashford has been with Manchester United this year, his England form has always been good, he’s always done well.

“At the 2022 World Cup, he was our joint-leading scorer. When he's on his game, he can be a real player. I was a little bit surprised we didn't take him.

“I would still have included him in the Euros squad. Even if he's not starting, he can come off the bench.

“He gives you that pace either wide or through the middle. On his day, with that pace, Rashford can be a real threat to the opposition. If I was playing against him, he'd scare me to death at times.”
