There's no shortage of big names in North London this season, but which star has already achieved their place as a club legend, according to the ex-striker?

Son Heung-min is close to “legendary” status at Tottenham Hotspur, says ex-forward Teddy Sheringham, adding that the attacker has grown into “a real leader” with the club.

The South Korea international first joined the North London club in 2015 from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, and succeeded Hugo Lloris as captain before the 2023-24 season.

During his time with Spurs, he has helped them reach the UEFA Champions League Final and the EFL Cup Final, while his 159 goals puts him fifth on the club’s all-time scorer charts.

Son has previously spoken of his desire to be remembered fondly for his time with the club, but Sheringham thinks the star has already secured an outstanding legacy.

“Sonny is such a popular player,” he told Prime Casino. “He’s a superstar in Asia, and I think he’s a superstar in Tottenham.

“For me, in his tenth season, he’s already on the verge of legendary status. I think he’s already up there. Hopefully he can have a special season at the club.

“For Son to become a legend at the club, I think he simply just has to keep doing what he's doing.

“We’ve seen him blossom into a real leader over his time at Tottenham. This is his tenth season, and the fans absolutely love him.”

Son, who shared the Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah for the 2021-22 Premier League season, has been named the Best Footballer in Asia a record nine times.

He also helped South Korea to the final of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, and helped guide them to gold-medal success in men’s football at the 2018 Asian Games.
