Cristiano Ronaldo is not good enough for international football any more, according to Ian Wright.

Ronaldo failed to score at Euro 2024 — the first time the Portugal superstar has not scored at a European Championship in his career. The 39-year-old came into criticism for his play at this summer's tournament, which ended for Portugal at the quarter-final stage, after he played nearly every minute of his country's five matches at Euro 2024, including back-to-back knockout stage games that required extra time and penalties to decide.

Speaking on Stick to Football: The Overlap Special, brought to you by Sky Bet, Wright and fellow pundits Roy Keane, Jill Scott and Gary Neville were in agreement that Ronaldo was a detriment to Portugal's chances at the tournament, with Keane stating that the Al Nassr man "should have a break and step back from international football, and if he’s still playing at club level, then have a look at the World Cup when it comes around.”

Wright's assessment was even more blunt, as the former Arsenal and England striker stated plainly that Ronaldo isn't up to the standard any longer.

“What I saw of him, he can’t cut it at this level now," Wright said.

"As good as he is, as fit as he is, as driven as he is, you can see he just can’t quite get it out of his feet to get a shot in, the movement with a header, he can’t get past a defender now.”
