He sees one contender only.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that Jamie Vardy is Leicester City’s best ever player.

Vardy joined the club in 2012 and has 191 goals in 465 appearances, and was at the heart of their famous Premier League triumph in 2016. The 37-year-old also notched 20 goals for the club last season as they achieved promotion back to the Premier League, and last night equalised in their 1-1 draw against Tottenham.

There are few players who have stayed with the club for long, and fewer still who have won the league and promotion with the same team.

Speaking to Sky Sports last night after the draw, Carragher said: "I would imagine Vardy is Leicester's greatest ever player.

"He is a special footballer."

Dominic Solanke, at the other end of the pitch, failed to score for Tottenham in his full debut after a £65 million move from Bournemouth, and Gary Neville observed that he would now be under increased pressure.

"This is a test for him," he explained. "There will be moments. There were moments and big chances and he will be judged on moments like that. He needs to make sure he doesn't beat himself up in the next few days.

"He probably should have had one or two, but he will get goals if he carries on doing that."
