Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant has said his former team are genuine Premier League title contenders this season.
The Reds are second, a point behind Man City in the league table, and have built real momentum and confidence during the early part of the season.
Liverpool have pushed City the closest in several of the last few seasons. The two teams clash in the first Premier League game after the international break.
Speaking to King Casino Bonus, Pennant said, "I would say Liverpool are serious title challengers. Compare how they were last season to where they are now - sitting pretty in second place."
Jurgen Klopp's side endured an inconsistent 2022-23 season, which saw them finish outside the top four for the first time this decade. However, a redesigned squad has seen Liverpool start quickly this season.
They have lost just once and have navigated European games alongside the domestic fixtures. Pennant suggested Klopp would be delighted with the start, "Liverpool have come a long way, and there's no reason why they shouldn't be considered true challengers."
He continued, "It's all going well for Jurgen, and he should be really pleased, and so should the players and fans."
