Manchester United dealt a blow to Liverpool's Premier League title hopes when the teams drew 2-2 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Liverpool needed a victory to regain first place in the standings from Arsenal, who had leapfrogged into the top spot a day earlier.

United found themselves in a hole early as Luis Diaz opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, but Bruno Fernandes equalised just after halftime and Kobbie Mainoo put the Red Devils on top with a well-placed strike in the 67th minute.

The visitors then pulled level in the 84th minute after Aaron Wan-Bissaka's ill-advised tackle led to a Liverpool penalty kick that was coolly converted by Mohamed Salah.

For Mainoo, the goal was his first at OId Trafford but the 18-year-old came away from the match with a bittersweet feeling due to the result.

"Disappointed to be honest," Mainoo told Sky Sports. "I think we performed really well in the second half. The lads made minor mistakes and if we iron them out then we win the game.

"It's an unbelievable feeling to score my first Old Trafford goal and to do it in this fixture was even more special. We didn't get the three points and that's the main thing."
