Kobbie Mainoo says £105m England team-mate is ‘worth every penny’

Kobbie Mainoo says £105m England team-mate is ‘worth every penny’DAZN
Mainoo praised the "dominant" midfielder.

Kobbie Mainoo has had a meteoric rise in the last year, going from a squad player at Manchester United to part of England’s Euro 2024 squad.

The 19-year-old came off the bench in England’s opening Euro 2024 match against Serbia, which the Three Lions won 1-0.

England have lots of strength in depth in midfield, with the likes of Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Connor Gallagher competing for minutes.

Speaking ahead of England’s second match against Denmark on Thursday, Mainoo has heaped praise on Arsenal midfielder Rice.

Rice was a £105m transfer to the Gunners last summer, breaking the club’s record transfer fee, and Mainoo says he is “worth every penny.”

“Dec is such a good player, reliable and dominant in the midfield,” said Mainoo.

“When I get to play with him it's always a joy to have someone so strong with the ball next to you.

"Everyone knows he's worth every penny, he's such a good player. He's proved it in the Premier League and internationally.

"He frees me up a lot and allows me to go forward and attack and trust that he's there. It's a dream."
