Alan Smith has backed two former Premier League bosses as possible successors to Steve Cooper at Leicester City.
Cooper was removed from his post on Sunday following the weekend's defeat to Chelsea, with the Foxes sitting one point outside the bottom three. The former Nottingham Forest manager failed to win over the fans at the King Power, and the lack of connection was believed to be one of the reasons for his dismissal.
The search is now on for Cooper's replacement, and speaking exclusively to DAZN, thanks to Mega Dice, former Foxes striker Smith has earmarked two names to fill the void.
"I think the two outstanding candidates would be Graham Potter and David Moyes. Different sorts of choices," Smith said.
"Graham Potter will want to get back in, I think, fairly soon. He's been out a while now after Chelsea. And he's clearly a talented coach. Whether we feel that's the right move, because he's going to be a relegation dogfight, I think, for Leicester.
"David Moyes has done that before, so he wouldn't be fearful of that. Would it be a short-term contract they want to sign somebody on like David Moyes, like a firefighting job? I don't know, but they're quite fortunate maybe that there's a few available at the moment.
"That's not always the case. So, maybe that's why they've made the call with the manager, Cooper, to get rid of him now, because there's every chance that they've sounded somebody out, even before swinging the axe."
Whoever comes in at the club faces the task of keeping Leicester in the division, with threats of points deductions looming if they were to drop back into the Championship, and Smith thinks the lack of depth in the squad will make it a difficult job.
Adding: "I think it will be tough. I think if will be a look at that squad of players. It doesn't seem to be quite enough quality in there.
"Whether they'll have a bit of wiggle room in January to bring in players, we'll see.
"I mean, the word was that Cooper was disappointed last summer as to the number of players coming in. He thought there was going to be more.
"But yeah, whatever manager comes in, if he can keep them up, that's a great achievement, because I think they are one of the relegation candidates."
