The quality of Kevin De Bruyne was enough to give Manchester City three points as they landed a serious blow on Chelsea’s title hopes as they registered a win with the Belgian’s goal enough. City dominated a tight game looking at the final scoreline, but they’ll be happy to have recorded another win whilst heaping more misery on their rivals.
Despite the quality on display, the game’s first half was a drab affair low on quality as both sides struggled to get a foothold in the contest. Chances were few and far between, but Jack Grealish had the half’s best chance, but Kepa kept out his poor finish as the teams went in goalless at halftime.
The second half was promising to be similar to the first, and although City was dominating the possession, they couldn’t turn that into a goal until De Bruyne took things into his own hands. The Belgian’s mazy run saw him approach the Chelsea box and his stunning right-footed effort found the bottom corner sending The Etihad Stadium supporters crazy.
The result leaves Chelsea and Liverpool distant challengers to City’s title challenge and barring a huge collapse, Pep Guardiola’s side looks on course to make a successful defence of their Premier League crown.
