Will the Red Devils sign a striker in January?

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has backed his old club to sign a striker in the January transfer window.

Erik ten Hag's team have found goalscoring difficult. Midfielder Scott McTominay is their top scorer with five Premier League goals.

With United's indifferent form, new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe could sanction an acquisition to help the misfiring Red Devils.

The club have previously done business in January. They have signed Odion Ighalo and Wout Weghorst in previous January transfer windows.

Berbatov said to Betfair, "United will buy a striker - but who will that be? I don't know. It's always good to have competition for places; it's healthy."

The Bulgarian continued, "United will go for a striker to shake things up a bit to tell the other players like Rashford, Hojlund and Garnacho to keep pushing forward."

However, Berbatov did warn United about the potential change in dressing room dynamics due to a new signing. He said, "It's always good to have competition for places; it's healthy. On the other hand, it can be unhealthy if you don't play the right players because it can cause problems within the dressing room. You need to be careful which striker you approach."
