Former Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov explained the error he thinks that Erik ten Hag is making with current forward Marcus Rashford.
Rashford has led the line for United in the absence of Rasmus Hojlund, who is currently out injured after his arrival from Atalanta in the summer.
United lost their match against Tottenham Hotspur, another of Berbatov’s former clubs at the weekend, and Ten Hag’s side struggled for creativity.
Speaking to Betfair, Berbatov picked out the weakness of playing England international Rashford through the middle.
He said: “Man United are suffering with Marcus Rashford playing up front
“I think we all know that he prefers to play on the wing, going inside, cutting in and scoring and doing everything that he can do with his quick feet.
“Manchester United need to fill the position of a striker, Rashford probably doesn't like playing as a nine. Him and Ten Hag need to talk about it.
“The manager might explain to him that he needs to fill the boots of the striker at the moment. As much as you may not like it, you need to try your best to do it. It's probably not working out so far.
“Rasmus Hojlund needs to come back and be integrated into the team injury free, you can't rush it. They'll get the ball in the box to him and leave Rashford to do what he can do, going from the wings to use the space to cut inside, cross or shoot.
“At the moment, when a player plays out of position, I can understand why they might not [be] happy because you know that your strong qualities are not going to show and you're going to suffer because of that. “
