Games to watch from the National League this week

York City vs Gateshead

  • Date: Wednesday, January 1
  • Time: 3pm GMT

York City got an extended Christmas break thanks to their Boxing Day postponement at Oldham, and they'll be looking to keep pace with Barnet at the top of the league when they host Gateshead in their first game of 2025.

Carl Magnay's side came out on top of a 4-3 thriller with North-East rivals Hartlepool on Boxing Day and are now just a point off York in what's becoming a fascinating promotion race at the top of the National League.

Hartlepool United vs. Oldham Athletic

  • Date: Wednesday, January 1
  • Time: 3pm GMT

Two of the National League's biggest names clash on New Year's Day, with Oldham looking to continue their good form, which sees them right in the promotion mix.

The Latics didn't play on Boxing Day but are unbeaten in their last seven games and are just two points off leaders Barnet in the table.

They travel to a Hartlepool side, still struggling with consistency and coming off a 4-3 defeat against local rivals Gateshead on Boxing Day.

Braintree Town vs Southend United

  • Date: Wednesday, January 1
  • Time: 5:30pm GMT

An Essex derby to kick off 2025, with Braintree entertaining Southend in the day's late game.

Both these sides reside in the bottom half of the table, and have struggled this season, but both do come into the game having tasted victory on Boxing Day.

Steve Morison's Sutton had the luxury of facing bottom-placed Ebbsfleet, who they battered aside with a 4-0 win, while Braintree won away at Dagenham and Redbridge 4-2, but who will get local bragging rights in this one?
