York City win, Aldershot Town lose, Barnet draw - This weekend's National League round-up on DAZNDAZN
There was no shortage of goals, red cards and drama in the fifth tier of English football this weekend.

The 2024-25 National League season is live on DAZN around the globe right now, and fans across the world were treated to a feast of football this weekend.

As teams continue to plough towards the hectic festive period, several intriguing campaigns are starting to take firmer shape amid peaks and troughs in form.

York City cemented their place as the current frontrunners, Wealdstone gave themselves a timely relegation battle boost and Barnet failed to build on a flurry of chances.

Here, DAZN looks back at the feature games in the National League this weekend.

Minstermen down Monkey Hangers in eight-goal thriller

National League leaders York City kept themselves in pole position to secure a return to the EFL after a nine-year exodus as they put five past Hartlepool United on Saturday.

Former Worthing forward Ollie Pearce bagged a brace in the 5-3 win, to move joint-second on the scoring charts this season, only behind AFC Fylde's Nick Haughton.

It means City stay two points clear of Forest Green Rovers, and continues their remarkable revival under Adam Hinshelwood, having finished 20th in the fifth tier last term.

Nine-man Shots downed in basement battle

At the opposite end of the table, Wealdstone gave their hopes of escaping the bottom four a timely boost with a 2-0 victory over fellow strugglers Aldershot Town.

In just their third win of the campaign so far, the visitors took the lead through a first-half penalty for Alex Reid, before Max Kretzschmar doubled it in second-half injury time.

In between, Aldershot were reduced to nine men in the space of as many minutes, with both Dave Ellison and Aaron Jones dismissed in a bad-tempered day for the hosts.

Bees and Latcis share goalless spoils

Both Barnet and Oldham Athletic headed into the crunch encounter knowing they could turn up their heat in their respective pushes for promotion this term.

As it was, they ended up playing out a hard-fought 0-0 draw, where the Bees may have walked away with a few regrets over their inability to get the three points in the bag.

Ben Coker had an effort disallowed for offside, Anthony Hartigan hit the bar and Rhys Browne saw a shot saved by Matthew Hudson, all in the final quarter of the game.
