It's an all-European affair as Netherlands and Portugal kick off their respective journeys at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup on Sunday.

The Dutch are heavily favoured to claim victory in this match, and they'll need to if they want to keep pace with group favourites United States, who defeated Vietnam 3-0 in the other Group E opener on Saturday. Ranked ninth in the world, the Oranje are expected to take second place in the group, but a good showing against the neophyte Portuguese could help the Netherlands challenge for the top spot.

Portugal will be playing their first WWC match, and they enter the contest on the back of mixed results so far in 2023. Their most recent match was an unofficial 2-1 loss to Norway last week, but the Portuguese drew powerhouse England 0-0 in Milton Keynes at the beginning of July, so they have demonstrated the ability to compete against the world's best, albeit in a low pressure setting.
