The Premier League's game of the day took place at St James' Park.

Newcastle United and Luton Town played out a thrilling 4-4 draw at St James' Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Magpies twice took the lead in the first half - both goals from Sean Longstaff - but Luton hit back on both occasions to go into half-time level.

The Hatters then took their first lead of the match, scoring twice in three minutes to go 4-2 up away from home with less than half an hour left to play.

But Newcastle fought back, and goals from Kieran Trippier and the returning Harvey Barnes made it 4-4 on the afternoon with 15 minutes plus injury time still to play.

Despite the flurry of goals, neither team could find a winner in the time that remained, something which disappointed Newcastle goalscorer Longstaff.

Longstaff told BBC Sport after the match: "We should probably win the game, but if you go 4-2 down and someone offers you a point you will take it.

"It has probably been the story of our season. A little bit up and down and a little bit inconsistent but another point on the board and we go again.

"I feel as though, with no disrespect to Luton, we should win at home. And going twice ahead, we should win it, but it could be an important point come the end of the season.

"When you score four goals at home you should win the game. It's disappointing but it was a positive to come back from 4-2 down.

"And I am really happy for Harvey [Barnes]. He has had some setbacks and for him to come on and score that goal was massive."

Newcastle miss out on the chance to jump above Manchester United in the Premier League table, as they slip a place to ninth with Brighton winning at home against rivals Crystal Palace.
