Over reliant? Bayern-linked Harry Kane accounted for nearly half of Tottenham's Premier League goals last season

Over reliant? Bayern-linked Harry Kane accounted for nearly half of Tottenham's Premier League goals last seasonDAZN

With Harry Kane linked to a move to Bayern Munich this summer, Tottenham Hotspur could soon be facing a big problem.

How do they replace Kane's production?

The England international and longtime Spurs forward has been a wellspring of goals for the North London side throughout his career, but in 2022-23 his goal scoring was one of the main reasons a struggling Tottenham side were able to stay in the top 10 on the Premier League table. Spurs finished eighth with 70 goals scored — 30 of which were scored by Kane.

According to research done by statisticians at Best Gambling Sites, Kane's tally of nearly 43% of Tottenham's goals last season was more than any other single player in the Premier League — even record-breaker Erling Haaland only accounted for just over 38% of Manchester City's goals in league play.

Without Kane's goals, Spurs would've likely struggled to stay in the top half of the table. Yes, they probably would've found goals from other sources if Kane had suddenly disappeared from the squad, but no other player contributed more scoring to their club than he did.

By contrast, the range of the top scorers' contributions for each of the seven teams above Tottenham in the standings were 13.38% (Alexis Mac Allister, Brighton) to Haaland's 38.30% at Man City. Tottenham's arch-rivals Arsenal managed to finish second despite their joint-top scorers, Martin Ødegaard and Gabriel Martinelli, each accounting for just 17.05% of the Gunners' total output.

It's both a credit to Kane's consistency as an elite striker as well as an indictment of Spurs' squad-building that he was so influential on the attacking end for his club last end.

That kind of production, combined with Tottenham's overall lack of goal scoring last year, should give the side pause when considering Bayern's big-money overtures for the 29-year-old.
